wish you were here!!

We are back from our holidays, and we didn't forget our build whilst in "sunny" (well it is now) Devon, we saw lots of examples of curved roofs in some great National Trust properties, that have given us some ideas for our curved roof on the porch.

and the first day back has been as busy as ever on site!, Pete got up and on the roof ASAP before it got too hot and he has put all the ridge tiles on.

Hadyn, ( architect) came over to inspect the build and was happy with everything.

The windows have been delivered, we need to do the rest of measurements and order the final ones today, there were a couple of problems with yesterdays deliverey so Pete will have to ring the company this morning, ( our bedroom window opens the wrong way) after the whole delivery has been checked, but we are really pleased with them.

The brothers, came over last night after work (thankyou) to help get the roof trusses up on top of the extension, as usual someone risked life and limb!

The tent has come off the balcony, it is still not a perfect job but it is a million miles away from the first attempt,........................................ so just in case you need a fiberglass company for a flat roof NO  we can't recommend anyone.

"MORNING CAMPERS "!

Pete built a tent so Romeslow (how long have we had to wait?) and co could come and do the fiberglass on the balcony, he has been out to look at the completed job, and amongst other   choice words "DOGS BREAKFAST" has been used a few times, it's a really disappointing finish, he is now working on trying to get it sorted out.

The builders did finish the extension on Monday, and Harlows are now making the roof trusses which should be ready soon.

Rain, rain go away!- Pete and Dave are stuck inside putting on the silver membrane and tile laths, and they have ordered all the cladding so we can get on with painting that inside if the rain continues!!!!!Roll on winter- that's what I say!

This isn't quite what I had in mind for the family room!

Happy Mondays!

All being well we should get the extension finished tomorrow! (Thats if the Ken's have forgiven us for locking them in the garage when we were rushing off to see the olympic torch on Friday-ooops!)

We now have chimney pots, and this photo shows the extension on Friday.

Thanks kate!

"its behind you!................................

Pete spent ages looking for the last few bags of insulation last week, and in the end Dave had to go and buy some more.............

..............should have gone to specsavers!!!!!

Perhaps that explains why Pete thought it was a great idea to put two bright red chimney pots on the blue brick chimney

WEETABIX!

After a hearty breakfast Pete went to have a chat with the bricklayers, and look what happened................!
.......................we have got ourselves the start of an extension!

Pete has been putting the ceiling joists in tonight!

The balcony now has a floor and is ready for the fibre glass.

WE'VE GOT THE BUILDERS IN.............................

AND WE'RE HAVING AN EXTENSION!.............

BUT!, they are still juggling jobs and it seems that the other bloke can shout alot louder, so watch this space because I think Pete will build it himself whilst they are not looking!

Pete has now built the chimney himself and the pots will probably go on next week!  We are really pleased with it, we used blue bricks as we have not used any red bricks within the rest of the build.

During the wet weather they have been putting the silver membrane and the plasterboard leths on the upstairs external walls.

inspiration!
We spent hours last night with bits of wood and paper and pencils deciding on the lay out of the utility and laundry, at one point the dogs were sleeping on top of the freezer, but we are now pleased with the plans we have come up with, Pete thought the laundry was just a laundry, "oh no" its going to be all greys and moody blues a real french vintage feel,-he has come around to my way of thinking now (how wise!) and added a shelf for vintage tat! -his words not mine!

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND..............................

.......................................FOR TWO DAYS ONLY,

Ken and Ken have been back they have finished the front of the house and have made a good start on the chimney, unfortuantley they now seem to be juggling jobs and we won't see them until the middle of next week.

Pete has been been busy welding some metal beams for the part of the house that is
"not an extension".

and in the rain showers he has been inside, getting the upsairs rooms ready for plaster board.

We have been to frame Fast this morning and ordered our bi -fold doors for the kitchen and family room, they should take about 6 weeks, We have got the paint made up for the cladding at the back of the house and we will order the wood so we can start to Paint it inside the house.
I have made a start on the Parquet flooring its quite an easy job, its just the amount of it that is daunting!
Now the builders are back and finished the front  we can measure the holes and order some more windows.

I have taken a trip to my favourite fabric shop and got some more curtain fabric - and spent yesterday evening photographing and measuring all that I have so I can really start to think about the interiors of the rooms. ( I know it seems premature but I want to be really organised, also I do think you loose a bit of energy and enthusiasm at the end of the project)

Yipee!!! I won this sink on Ebay I really wanted one for the utility room, and now we get a day out to doncaster as well!!!!!

Romeo has sent the samples for the flat roof on the balcony, I don't think we will use "mud" or "moss" and go for the one I'm calling "British Summer Grey" instead, in the textured finish.
